Inspiration
Our inspiration came from our own experiences as students. We noticed how overwhelming college life can be when everything is spread across different platforms. We wanted to create a single space that brings all these important parts together, making it easier for students to stay organized and move closer to their goals.
Figma
Created an illustrative demo by using Figma. Our prompt to Figma was "create a comprehensive college app with the four pages," and Figma suggested to us the website idea that contains
Our Coding Journey
We started the coding with these coding languages: React.js, Node.js, and CSS, using MongoDB to store all application data:
- React.js is used for front-end development, building component-based user interfaces for a more seamless experience
- CSS is used for styling and layout design
- MongoDB is used for storing and managing data of users and all their information
- Node.js was used for the backend development
Challenges We Ran Into
- Integrate any external features/ applications such as Google Calendar
- Changing pinned stuff/module that was added on the page
- Encrypted the secret
- Shareability of tools, as most companies require payment
Pre-Launched Features
- Due to challenges with deployment on Render on multiple machines, we couldn't add the OpenAI API integration without risking integral parts of the program. However, when using our own local machines, we are able to avoid this problem.
- We have currently developed a working version of a search engine that uses OpenAI for interview practice and finding networking events that the user prompts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
- Successfully integrate Google Calendar into our website
- Having more dynamic elements on the page that make it feel more "alive" and colorful
- Creating an AI-powered networking search bar to help students discover relevant networking opportunities.
What we learned
- Properly integrating an external feature to have full functionality can be frustrating
- Live deployment can be difficult, especially when we're not sure which service is best to use
What's next for U-Life
- Making the external links establish
- Adding a mobile app that is easier for student to access on their phones
- Having a "Groups" Tab that makes it easier for study groups and friend circles to meet up
