Inspiration

I noticed a growing need among typists and the broader shift toward digital learning tools. I wanted to contribute something meaningful and simplify the typing learning process for others. Several ideas floated through my mind, but my spark of inspiration came from a book I discovered on OpenLibrary.org titled "Usefully Useless Things That You Will Never Learn in School." That collection of creative fun facts and ideas lit the flame — and that’s when Typocalypse came into focus. Despite the abundance of typing platforms available today, I wanted to make ours different and unique. What if learning to type felt more like embarking on an adventure?

What it does

The typocalypse web app helps a beginner to embark on a learning platform that will eventually transform his typing speed and accuracy to an Expert level. on the platform we have even the section to compete with other typist and that helps one to improve his skills, while engaging in fun. learning has never been this fun. The web app has the community section were typists can share ideas and opportunities, and also the mission page that has a list of jobs that typists can apply to, using their skills in a real world.

How we built it

  1. Concept Ideation -Brainstormed multiple ideas, then refined the gamified typing journey concept inspired by that book.
  2. AI-Driven Planning & Prompts -Used ChatGPT extensively for prompt analysis, refining ideas, and generating code snippets. -Transitioned to using Bolt.new to interact during development for UI components and debugging.
  3. MVP Development -Designed a series of learning “chapters”—short, focused modules that gradually increase in difficulty. This simplified structure keeps users engaged and makes the progression intuitive. -Built the frontend interface, organized the chapter logic, and supported it with a basic backend to track progress. ## Challenges we ran into
  4. Solo Developer Limitations -I was the sole creator and didn’t have expertise in many technical areas — from UI/UX to backend integrations.
  5. Balancing Complexity and Usability -I needed to replace the original 400‑level plan with a simpler chapter‑based approach that still fulfilled the “zero‑to‑hero” mission.
  6. Tool & Credit Management -I learned to strategize my use of AI tools: relying on ChatGPT for deep brainstorming while conserving credits, and using Bolt.new for daily coding and refinement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of what I have accomplished so far, to have a web app that is functional and deployed, the are still many things that i thing needs improvement with web app. But i am satisfied with the ui and ux of the web app. But i am looking forward to hear the response of the users and i will take it from there, and I hope all goes well.

What we learned

Working on Typocalypse pushed me out of my comfort zone and into new territory: -UX/UI Design: I learned how to design for clarity, engagement, and gradual progression. -Backend Fundamentals: I gained practical experience in building and connecting the server-side logic to the front end. -Rapid Prototyping: I mastered using AI tools in development workflows for efficiency. -Problem-Solving: Tackling technical roadblocks solo taught me to think creatively and reshape my approach.

What's next for Typocalypse

The initial idea for Typocalypse was to have a game that will have more than 400 levels, that will have beautiful animation, and the user will move up the ladder, embarking on a journey through rough terrains , through water, sea, space, fire. on the games the user have to improve his typing skills and test accuracy, and next speed, and all that with little time allocated, and have remote jobs on the platform, and help people to find jobs based on the skills they have developed on the platform. So my goal now is to go and learn more on game development, and make this idea a reality. but while doing so, i am determined to maintain and improve this web app in its current form, and ensure the safety of the users, especially the comment section, and protect data of the users from web browser known cyber attacks.
