Inspiration
Typing Tornado was inspired by the thrill of competitive typing games and to make it visually engaging. I wanted to create a game that is both fun and challenges players to improve their typing speed and accuracy.
What it does
Typing Tornado is a simple fast-paced word game where players race against the clock to type words correctly. The game includes missing-letter challenges, quirky animations, and dynamic power-ups to keep the experience exciting.
How I built it
We built Typing Tornado using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. The animations, including the wind-blown (tornado) effect, were implemented using CSS.
Challenges I ran into
- Brainstorming the concept: Deciding on a unique and engaging game idea that fit the hackathon theme took considerable effort and creativity
- Designing smooth and responsive animations like the tornado effect while maintaining performance.
- Creating a balanced game loop that is both challenging and fun.
- Managing time constraints during the hackathon while ensuring a polished result.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Successfully implementing the tornado animation and quirky visual design.
- Crafting an enjoyable simple gameplay experience with a unique theme.
- Completing a fully functional and engaging game within the tight timeframe of the hackathon (starting just 5 days before the deadline).
What I learned
- Advanced CSS animations and their impact on user experience.
- How to efficiently use Reddit's Developer Platform for app integration.
- Balancing aesthetics and functionality in game design.
- Time management.
What's next for Typing Tornado
- Adding multiplayer functionality for competitive typing battles.
- Introducing new word categories and difficulty levels to keep the game engaging for different skill levels.
- Enhancing the tornado animation with additional effects like debris or sound effects.
- Creating a leaderboard to display high scores and encourage players to improve.
- Expanding the game's accessibility with mobile-friendly controls.
- Exploring power-ups or challenges to make the gameplay more dynamic and unpredictable.
