Typeloom v1.0
Why I Built It
Typing is something most of us do every day, but practicing it can quickly become repetitive. I wanted to build something that felt simple and enjoyable rather than turning typing practice into another complicated tool.
That idea became Typeloom — a clean typing web app focused on the actual experience of typing.
I wanted the interface to stay out of the way, so the main focus is the text, the keyboard, and the progress you make while using it.
How I Built It
I built Typeloom with React, Vite, and TypeScript.
React handles the interface and application state, Vite keeps the development and production workflow fast, and TypeScript helps keep the project structured as more features are added.
I also spent time working on the small details of the interface — responsive layouts, readable typography, typing feedback, statistics, and smooth interactions.
The goal wasn't to build a huge platform. I wanted to make something that feels straightforward when you open it and immediately start typing.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was getting the typing experience to feel right.
A typing app has to react to every keystroke immediately. Small delays, awkward feedback, or distracting UI elements can make the whole experience feel wrong.
I also experimented with taking Typeloom beyond the browser and packaging it as a desktop application with Electron. That part taught me a lot about the differences between a web application and a packaged desktop application. I eventually brought the project back to its web-app foundation so I could focus on the core experience.
What I Learned
This project reminded me that a good application isn't necessarily about having the most features.
Sometimes the hardest part is making a small number of things work well together.
I learned more about React application structure, Vite builds, TypeScript, responsive UI design, Electron packaging, and the practical differences between development and production environments.
Most importantly, I learned to keep iterating when something doesn't work the way I expected instead of trying to force the original approach.
What's Next
Typeloom is still a work in progress.
I want to continue improving the typing experience, add more useful practice options, improve statistics and history, and keep the interface fast and distraction-free.
This is the version I'm happy to share for the Poly.Tech mini hackathon, and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on it.
