Inspiration
We really wanted to make a simple type of game, we were inspired by the cozy-like games such as Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing.
What it does
When fish appear within the lake, a small timer will appear above them with a word on top of the fish. You must type the word before the timer associated with the fish runs out to get the points. 25 fish total will spawn during the gameplay, if you don't catch the fish, it will not be counted towards the final score.
How we built it
We built it on Unity, C#, and sleep deprivation! We began by creating the vital code first, adding the sprites, and only then adjusting the scripts to better fit the scene and situation. As we needed to apply certain solutions, we would discuss the best plan of action and implementation of the gameplay mechanics, animation, and design.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge for us was the general lack of experience with Unity. Unity has so much documentation and proper method usage that it was a pretty slow start. The very slow wifi at the beginning also pushed us back as we found ourselves missing vital apps or struggling to import assets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating this entire game! Not only is it a game, but it's a functional one with even a couple of extra features that we tacked on. The visuals are amazing and fit very well into the entire game as well.
What we learned
We've learned how to better utilize the Unity Editor and also got some very nice practice with C#. We've learnt how to create assets, import them, add animation, and the many ways methods are applied within the Unity Engine.
What's next for TypeCast
Next for TypeCast, we would prefer to implement more levels and fish variety to the game. We were also really interested in adding a Murder Mystery storyline to the game that would be implemented through catching bottles with notes within them. We would also love to include many more unique assets and animations to our game to make the experience more enjoyable for the player!
