Inspiration
We wanted to build something that felt instantly familiar, but with a twist that makes people say, “wait… that’s actually really cool.” Space shooters are fun, typing games are fun, so we asked: what if typing itself became the weapon? That simple idea became Type-Shooter, a game where your keyboard is your blaster, and every word you type directly controls the action on screen.
What it does
Type-Shooter is a fast-paced space combat game where players destroy enemy ships by typing words accurately and quickly. Every completed word fires at an enemy ship, turning your typing speed into firepower. As players progress, enemies become faster and more aggressive, requiring focus and precision.
The game also includes strategic power-ups like Super Laser, which clears all enemies on screen, Shields for temporary invincibility, and Heals for extra survivability. At the end of each level, players face a boss battle that must be defeated to advance.
How we built it
We built Type-Shooter entirely using MeDo, leveraging its no-code capabilities to rapidly prototype and iterate on gameplay mechanics. We designed a real-time word recognition system that maps typed input directly to enemy targeting and shooting actions.
The game loop was built around dynamic enemy spawning, health systems, power-up logic, and progressive difficulty scaling. A lot of effort went into balancing the gameplay so it feels challenging but still rewarding and fun.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was synchronizing typing input with gameplay in real time so the experience felt smooth and responsive. Even small delays could make the game feel frustrating.
Balancing difficulty was another major challenge. Too easy, and it becomes boring. Too hard, and players quit early. Finding that sweet spot required a lot of testing and iteration.
Designing boss fights that felt unique and exciting without overcomplicating the gameplay was also surprisingly difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that we transformed a simple concept into a genuinely engaging game experience. The idea of “typing as combat” feels intuitive and fun almost immediately.
We’re also proud that we built a polished, playable game entirely with MeDo, showing how powerful no-code tools can be for building creative interactive experiences.
Most importantly, we created something people can pick up in seconds but keep playing because they want to beat their previous score.
What we learned
This project taught us that simple ideas can become powerful when executed well.
We learned a lot about gameplay balancing, user engagement, and how important responsiveness is in action games. We also learned how quickly ideas can evolve when using rapid prototyping tools like MeDo.
What's next for Type-Shooter
Next, we want to expand Type-Shooter with multiple game modes, including endless survival and multiplayer challenges.
We also want to add customizable difficulty levels, more enemy types, stronger boss mechanics, and leaderboard systems so players can compete globally.
Long term, we see Type-Shooter becoming more than a game, it can become a fun way for people to improve typing speed while playing something genuinely exciting.
