Inspiration
Healthcare is a broken industry. Spending increases dramatically year over year. Much of the cost is related to administrative workflows. It is estimated that 3% of total healthcare spending in the US (4.5Trillion) is spent just on medical coding.
What it does
Thyme health automates medical coding & billing, saving providers time & money and streamlining the process for the entire healthcare value chain.
How we built it
A combination of prompt tuning & vector search enabled via langchain, we obtained publicly available data to train with.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of real clinical data that we can access, so we had to test on some synthetic samples.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The baseline performance of GPT 3.5 was 10% correct codes, and GPT 4 was 30%. We've achieved over 60% with a very simplistic implementation and with minimal data, so with more time we could easily get to 80+%.
