Inspiration
More students are using AI to help with homework, but a lot of them just copy answers without really understanding how to solve the problem. This can make them think they know the material when they actually don’t. We wanted to fix this by helping students focus on learning the steps, not just getting the answer.
What it does
Tyee Study Buddy helps students learn by guiding them through problems step by step. Instead of just giving the answer, it asks questions and gives hints so students can figure things out on their own. It works more like a tutor that helps you think, instead of just doing the work for you.
How we built it
We built the app using Google Antigravity so we could quickly test ideas and make changes. This helped us focus on making the app easy to use and helpful for students. We also added AI features that can explain problems and guide users through solutions.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was keeping our API keys safe while still being able to use them during development. Since the app depends on AI services, we had to make sure the keys were not exposed. We also had to think about how often we call the API so it stays fast and doesn’t cost too much.
What we learned
We learned that AI can be really helpful for learning, but only if it is used the right way. If students just copy answers, it doesn’t help them improve. But if AI helps guide their thinking, it can make learning faster and more effective.
What’s next for Tyee Study Buddy
Next, we want to add more features to support different ways of learning. One idea is to include audio tools, like a built in podcast feature that explains topics. We also want to make the app smarter so it can adjust to each student’s level and help them improve over time.
