Inspiration
Autofire Arena is an incremental shoot-em up that combines the chaotic combat of Vampire Survivors with the simplicity of incremental upgrade systems
Combined into a multiplayer 3D experience where players collect weapons, fight hordes together, and show off their loadouts
How We Built It
I’m primarily a game designer, so AI tools and references helped accelerate the project
- Used Horizon templates to guide Co-Pilot in Horizon Worlds best practices
- Mesh and Texture generation in engine after establishing a vision to ensure cohesive art direction
- Used Ask Mode in Horizon Editor to confirm horizon specific setup and settings Workflow with AI: describe → simplify → playtest → iterate
Challenges
- Performance: achieving large enemy counts without FPS drops - solved with static meshes animated via code
- Learning curve: first full project where Im programming in Horizon, adapting to TypeScript and best practices
Accomplishments
- Captured the Vampire Survivors feeling in multiplayer — chaos, teamwork, and power fantasy
- Everything ties into one clean loop: fight → earn → upgrade & customize → fight more!
- Built a system that allows experimentation and expression without complexity
- Doing it all solo!
