Inspiration

Our project allows people to connect with new people and explore diverse culture and share information rather than getting stuck in a bubble of already known friends. Since our team comes from diverse backgrounds and cultures, it would be hard to find each other on Twitter despite shared interests, we wanted to fix that.

What it does

Our project connects two people with similar interests on twitter based on their past tweets using analysis of significant words within their tweets.

How I built it

Initially using Python in a google doc for rough notes. From there, one of our experienced team members continued to work on it.

Challenges I ran into

Timezones were a major challenge for us. We have people almost exactly 13 hours off from each other which makes it incredibly hard to collaborate. Coming up with an initial idea was also quite difficult because we wanted to come up with something that had added value to what Twitter already has.

We also have a very rough document of our initial thoughts on code, but then had one of the team members need sleep (that timezones thing), so one of the other ones experiences with ML and data science took over. Unfortunately, that member was offline for a while before submission and we couldn't find where he had put the code he wrote, so we had to roll with what we have.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

It was a mad dash at the end, but we are able to submit something, it just isn't what we planned or complete. We can still say we made it to the finish line.

What I learned

Kate: Project managers are really important, as is being willing to put yourself out there. Initially, getting a team was really challenging because I felt everyone was more qualified than me. I was looking for a back-end dev role, but I also am a certified project manager and should have leveraged those skills more to help ease the difficulties of having different timezones. I was nervous that I wasn't skilled enough to serve as a pm, but we could have used one.

What's next for Twitter Team Unnamed
