About the project: We wanted to make an app that would be closer to the apps that we use on a daily basis, such as social media applications, hence we were inspired to make a social media clone application that is similar to Twitter. Initially we were torn between an e-commerce app or a social media app, and we chose to make a Twitter Clone as we wanted a project that we could relate to more, and use more frequently, so that we would stay motivated to work on the project. Social media applications also often attracts more users, and we wanted the challenge of attempting the multiple features that most social media apps provide.
Challenges faced: Emi - A challenge I faced was trying to implement an external Oauth log in method, such as google. As it was something out of the teaching scope, I had to research online for resources and learn something completely new. I overcame it by researching on Google and Youtube about Google Oauth Sign in, as well as getting help from classmates that had already completed it in order to understand it more. I learnt how to implement Google Oauth into our own applications, and understanding the fundamentals and structure of the codes is much better in the long run, as I can now try to implement other application Oauth, such as Twitter or Github.
Tze Rui - A challenge I faced was learning a completely new library called Socket.io. This library is used for in-app notifications implemented in the messages feature. As it was something new, I had to do research on Google in order to understand how to use it.
Hai Jie - One of the challenges that I faced which is tag other users in twitter. I have done research and asked friends to get an idea how to do the tag other users. I have learnt how to use regex to check the '@' and the alphabet to mention someone in a post. I have learnt the function of autocomplete when I input user’s name in the input field. The next is send notification to gmail. I have done research how it works n I have learnt how to send notification to email when I mention someone in a post.
Key learning as a team: One important takeaway working in a team is that communication is key. It is important that each team member knows what their role is, and to give constant updates to the team so that everyone is on the same page and pace. It would also allow team members to know if you need help, so that they can work on it together and solve it quicker. Working as a team helps us to simulate future bigger projects where working individually is not possible, and allows us to learn how best to work with others, while also remaining independent while needed.
