Inspiration
Just wanted to participate in my first hackathon and noticed the project lined up with my skillset, no huge inspiration here sadly.
What it does
This game simulates my room, includes some minor interactions, and can control a real life LED
How we built it
Used Unreal engine to put the thing together and for basic interactions Blender for props and models C++/Python and UDP for the connection a small breadboard with an LED and usb power provider for the led
Challenges we ran into
Lots. Figuring out how to turn the LED on and off was a huge hassle, we tried like 4 different methods from disabling the USB port, uninstalling it, using some specific usb controller programs, and more.
Library linking issues... the horror
Figuring out how to navigate blender in 3 hours was a nightmare as well, its reported steep learning curve is very real
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the LED to work was like a 7 hour process to turn on a lightswitch yet I'm still proud
What we learned
Used blender for the first time, also figured out how to semi-permanently brick a pc's usb ports if I ever wanted to do that for some reason. Used a whole lot of USB related technologies that I've already forgotten though...
What's next for Twinning my Room
Nothing lol
