Inspiration

We were inspired to create this project because we wanted to understand the world around us better. Especially with world issues going on like the novel coronavirus, we wanted to visualize where tweets were coming from around the world. Also, we thought it would be interesting to see the different sentiments of the tweets depending on the location, to see if we could notice any trends in the tweets.

What it does

Enter a topic you are interested about into TweetVR, and our program will output all of the live tweets and locations related to that topic. All of these locations will appear in front of you if you while you are wearing your VR headset. If you move with the Oculus Rift controller and with your head, you can spin the globe and explore! The tweets that are analyzed as negative will appear more red, and tweets that are analyzed as positive will appear more green.

How I built it

  • Unity
  • Oculus Rift
  • Tweepy API
  • C#
  • Python
  • TextBlob sentiment analysis

Challenges I ran into

Using the Oculus Rift, Scraping the web for tweets,

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

What I learned

How to use unity to create a Virtual Reality simulation.

What's next for TweetVR
