Tutr

Inspiration

Tutr, similar to Tindr, is a mobile application that allows users to create student or tutor profiles and match with prospective connections. We wanted to provide a product that would help link students that are struggling with other students who want to make money on the side.

What it does

Users would create either a student or tutor profile and add information regarding their classes, certifications, or any other relevant information. Students would be able to swipe through prospective tutors or see a list of all tutors and filter by profile details, and vice versa. Users could request to message prospective matches to setup tutoring sessions. A community tab would be a discussion board that allows students to post questions and tutors to answer questions. Lastly, students have the option to pay tutors through Tutr.

How we built it

For this hackathon, we spent our time designing a prototype and specification so the project can be implemented in the future. We took the time to brainstorm what the MVP would look like as well as the final product, including a features list.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled to decide who the audience was for this product. We decided on high school and college students. Ideally, high schoolers would create student profiles and college students would create tutor profiles. High school students would also have the opportunity to ask about college in general, including applications and information about a specific school.

What we learned

We learned how to create a project specification, including an MVP, a features list, and a design prototype. Creating a specification is common in the software industry and an important skill to have.

What's next for Tutr

The next step would be implementing the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The first step would be to learn the steps for creating a mobile application. We hope to use the specification to create a final product that can be used as both a finished product for the public as well as a resume and portfolio piece.
