Inspiration: Many are not getting the proper attention and help they need in the standard classroom environment. The inspiration came from a friend who has lost all motivation to complete math work. He has fallen behind and does not believe he can catch up.
What it does and How We Built It: Our program uses your google log in to create an account. When an account is created you may decide if you are a tutor or a student. If you choose you are a tutor you can then decide what subjects you feel comfortable in teaching. From here the tutor can put in his credentials and info such as name, age, GPA, price, test scores, phone number, and whether or not you can tutor online and or in person. All of this information is stored into a tutor object which is then further stored in the firebase database for future logins. On the other hand, if you are a student you choose subjects, then fill in different information. This includes name, age, price range, and whether or not you want to be tutored in person or online. This information is also stored in the database for future logins. With all information stored matches can be made using a HashMap. Based on the student's subject, price range, and preference of communication tutors are suggested.
Challenges we ran into: This was both of our first times using an android studio and incorporating a database. This learning curve left us little time to make our app look pretty and accomplish debugging that would have made the app run smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Incorporating a database and becoming well versed in android studios. I was glad I was able to incorporate my knowledge in object-orientated programming into an app I can utilize at future hackathons.
What we learned: Incorporating a database and becoming well versed in android studios.
What's next for TutorMe: Getting it to run smoothly. The outline is done, we just need to add some connections to make it all flow and look nice.
