Inspiration

Because all of us have had volunteering experience tutoring students, we know that there are countless organizations that offer tutoring services. However, most offer a limited range of tutors, and some tutors available are not the best benefit for the student. Therefore, we wanted to create a platform for students to reach across the world and meet with tutors that they could never have learned from before. Learning is never easy, and our goal was to help students learn by connecting them with their perfect mentors.

What it does

This is a website that helps students find potential tutors by giving these students a list of tutors. If a student wanted to hire a tutor from the list, they would simply click the little heart image next to that tutor's name, and an automated message would be sent to the tutor, informing them a student is interested in his/her service.

How we built it

Our team used director to code all the web pages, and a SQL database to store all login information, user-profile information, and tutor-profile information. We used Twilio as a notification system for tutors.

Challenges we ran into

Unable to utilize Firebase for authentication purposes. Due to our lack of experience, learning Twilio was an obstacle for our team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Incorporating Twilio into our web app Extensive use of Databases.

What we learned

No one on our team had any prior experience with Twilio, so our entire team learned how to utilize Twilio in a program. Most importantly, we are proud to have made a working web app from scratch that we believe has a real-world impact.

What's next for Binder

The next step for Binder would be to make the system more dynamic to support a larger user base, improve organization that tutors have over their students, and refine the UI on the website.
