Inspiration
We have seen first-hand the demand for private tutors who are students at aspirational universities, and have each struggled to organise work through ad-hoc means such as Facebook groups (the current standard) while avoiding agencies that take large cuts.
What it does
Manages remotely stored user profiles to match parents looking for private tuition for their children to tutors looking for work.
How we built it
We made a cross-platform app using Kivy, Python, MongoDB, and Git.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't agree on coding conventions before starting due to insufficient knowledge in how to implement Kivy as we had never used it before. This led to integration issues further down the line, which ate into our time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proper segregation of work, making a functional and dynamic interface with a brand new library in under 24 hours.
What we learned
How to work with Kivy, noSQL mongoDB, and got experience synchronising front-end and back-end through Git.
What's next for TutorMatch
Ironing out the design further, and adding an in-built direct messaging system. Before release, we will be making sure it complies with GDPR and including safeguarding features, such as T&C and background checks.
