Inspiration

The site schoolhouse.world inspired us. world, made by Khan Academy. It fascinated us how we can get free tutoring with such good quality. We decided we'd make a similar site that encompasses more topics and is more organized.

What it does

The site has a learning page for topics supporting students through grades K-8. When you click on one of the subjects, it finds a tutor and automatically schedules a session for you as soon as there is a slot available. If you don't have the time to wait for one, we have an AI tool that can accommodate your needs at any moment in time.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and JS to build the site. In addition, we used a spreadsheet database to store data. For the AI we used the AI model Gemini 1.5 PRO. For the scheduling, we embed Google Calendar using iframe.

Challenges we ran into

The AI model was glitchy throughout time, and one of our teammates was busy for the majority of the duration of the Hackathon, thus putting our productivity at a low. We also had many scaling issues with multiple pages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of making the database and the AI Tool because it was the most time-consuming and difficult part. Keep in mind, we are only 7th graders. Hence, creating such intricate code was a big accomplishment for us.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned that static sites can do a lot more than we expect. On top of that, we learned many new technologies such as HTML and CSS. Even more than that, we learned collaboration and teamwork skills

What's next for TutorHive

TutorHive will be a public site with a more secure database and more modern design with thousands of tutors helping students with their troubles. In the near future, we will expand our database and soon have users from all around the world.
