Inspiration
University students have limited time and funds to spend trying to find the right tutor. With online learning making it near-impossible to get in-person academic help, we wanted to come up with a free and simple alternative method for students to get help.
What it does
Allows students to post and answer questions about any school subject. Tutor Tinder uses an in-site credit system to motivate its users to answer other people's questions. Credits are needed to post questions, and are earned by answering them. Each question costs one credit to post, and you can earn one, two, or three credits by answering questions, depending on how useful the other student found your answer. This system motivates people to help others for no cost.
How we built it
We created a front-end and back-end of a mock website. The front-end was coded using HTML and the back-end was coded using Python OOP.
Challenges we ran into
We had very little experience working with HTML and Python. Much of our time was spent learning and remembering syntax. We also had a lot of issues creating the presentation video.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud with how much we were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. 36 hours ago we didn't know how ot code in HTML, and we barely remembered how to do OOP in Python. We are very proud that we were able to produce a final product that is sleek in the front-end, and fairly robust in the back-end.
What we learned
We learned how to code in HTML, and we drastically strengthened our skills in Python programming.
What's next for Tutor Tinder
We would like to host a database that we could use to store courses, subjects and students. Furthermore we want to implement an algorithm that would prioritize students in your feed based on location, courses and program. Finally,
