Inspiration

Our inspiration for our project comes from recently learned information from our computer science and information science courses. While we may be beginners, we wanted to create a project that would incorporate and apply all of our skills.

What it does

The Turtle Art Generator takes input from a user to spit out an image created by using Turtle.

How we built it

We used Python to create the functions for creating certain Turtle shapes, as well as for running the Turtle program.

Challenges we ran into

Due to our relatively little experience in coding, we ran into quite a few challenges. One of our first challenges was when we were creating Turtle shapes for each letter of the alphabet, because some of the shapes would not show up, however after trying a few different ideas, we were able to fix this issue. We also wanted to make this into a website, however, due to the time constraint and our lack of experience, we decided to forego attaching our Python code to an HTML site.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As beginners, hackathons are very intimidating, but we are proud to have tried our best and participated in Pearl Hacks. We are also proud of how far our project has come because just yesterday we were not sure of what direction we wanted to take in our project.

What we learned

Through workshops and our project, we learned much more about programming in general, and have become more well-versed in Python, HTML, and CSS. We also learned how to work together and divide work to work under a time limit.

What's next for Turtle Art Generator

Once we have furthered our programming skills, we hope to make a functional, efficient website that houses our Turtle Art Generator. We also wanted to include APIs into our Turtle artwork, but we have yet to understand APIs enough to incorporate them into our project. Hopefully in the future we can incorporate APIs in order to make these art pieces more detailed and appealing.
