Inspiration
Living in an earthquake-prone country like Turkey, I noticed that most people rely on outdated or cluttered apps to check seismic activity. I wanted to create a modern, clean, and fast tool that allows anyone to instantly visualize recent earthquakes in Turkey using real-time data. The goal: raise awareness, promote safety, and simplify access to critical information.
What it does
Shows real-time earthquake data from Turkey using AFAD API
Displays interactive markers on a clean map
Users can click each earthquake to see its details (magnitude, depth, time)
Works on mobile and desktop
Updates automatically to reflect the latest events
How we built it
Built on Bolt.new – a no-code platform
Used AFAD Open API for live earthquake data
Map interface created with Mapbox
Added custom logic via JavaScript blocks
Optionally hosted on Netlify for public access
Challenges we ran into Finding a reliable and properly documented earthquake API
Parsing nested JSON responses and displaying them on the map
Keeping UI minimal while showing meaningful data
Optimizing performance for mobile users
Accomplishments that we're proud of Launched a fully working demo in 1 day
Integrated real-time government data successfully
Designed a clean and easy-to-use user experience
Created a tool that could genuinely help people in emergencies
What we learned The power of real-time data combined with no-code tools
How to use public APIs in visual interfaces
That good UX design is critical in crisis-oriented tools
AFAD’s open data can be used to build helpful applications
