Inspiration
Twitch plays Pokemon inspired this project, and taking the idea of remotely controlling a game led us to think about a remotely controlled physical game of chess via robotic arm. The idea later became more focused on developing a better system for controlling a robotic arm like this remotely.
What it does
This design allows a user to remotely control the movements of a robotic arm through the cloud using simple gestures correlating to specific motions of the arm itself. This is accomplished via a Leap motion controller.
How we built it
We interfaced a Leap motion controller, a Raspberry Pi 3, Arduino, Electron particle board, and the SAIN Smart 6-axis robotic arm.
Challenges we ran into
Interfacing the several components as well as the cloud communication and serial communication posed many challenges for this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing a project of this scale within a 24-hour time window was something we were very proud of, as we had to start from nothing and incorporate only those tools we had at our disposal.
What we learned
Cloud and serial communication can be very difficult to implement, as well as interfacing many different hardware components into one system.
