Inspiration
Recently in the news, we've experienced multiple planes disappearing into thin air. Those planes disappear with hundreds of passengers on them. After large amounts of time and money are spent on search and rescue efforts, we often still come short-handed. Our app, Turbulence, was made to help.
What it does
Our app responds to extreme cases of physical turbulence by sending out a gps signal. With enough people using this app on a plane, we could find multiple signals to locate as many people as possible on a missing plane. The app then connects to a web client which allows us to track the passengers real-time.
Under the hood
We made this app as a native android app. It seemed logical considering the dominance of Android on the smartphone market. To store the information of every passenger, we used FireBase. It provided a database that was quick and easy to use. Our web client uses MapBox and FireBase to show positions of users in real-time.
