Inspiration

The Inspiration for this project was relatively made to learn a new experience. I took the opportunity of the fun theme, consumer software, to finally learn React which has brought me a mess of a weekend. Due to the stress of working alone, I needed a way to cope. That is what brought music into my ears and into my head. After listening to a couple of songs and enjoying my tunes, I wanted to create an app that revolves around the music genre since I, the consumer, enjoy music very much.

What it does

What Tunney does is create playlists with a simple search and click of a button. It utilizes the Spotify API to search for songs and to gain a token of access to save the playlist to your account with a click of a button.

How I built it

The first step in creating this project was to learn React. I watch videos, read the documentation, and even tried out my first react app. The next thing was to read the Spotify API as it was a new thing to me. I didn't know what it does, what it gives, or how to even get access form it. I had to explore a new world away from my comfort zone. After getting the gist of it, I ran into a lot of problems but I strife through and created my very first react app that worked. I created 6 components for each of their own usage. The search bar (self-explanatory), the playlist (to save to one's account), the track (to add to the playlist), etc.

Challenges I ran into

I ran into a bunch of challenges during the weekend. To name a few I was lost in the world of documentation (react & Spotify), I couldn't understand fully what react hooks are, etc. Apart from the challenges above, there was one that proceed to beat me in the head. The challenge was figuring out how to connect the API to my react app. It was a new experience that I wasn't expecting. It was the challenge that brought me back to the point of heavy imposter syndrome. Nevertheless, I kept going, I continued creating the components and saving the API for last and once it was time for the final component, I realized that it had worked. All of the readings and readings of the documentation and watching video after video felt like it was worth it. I felt satisfied.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Overcoming the biggest challenge was a huge accomplishment for me. Not only did I create my first react app, I learned about the Spotify API and even got it to work. Yet, my proudest achievement would be that created an app by myself. I created the demo video, the frontend, the backend, and even the design of Tunney.

What I learned

What I learned from this new and different experience was to keep going. Whether there were big or small challenges ahead of me, I turned around, took my time, and faced the challenge when I was ready to take it on. Being able to keep going is always a thing that I have to learn and learn and learn.

What's next for Tunney

There is huge potential for Tunney. However, the next big step is to make it so that it can be used as a chrome extension rather than a website itself. Becoming a chrome extension means that users/consumers can make playlists on whatever website they are on. For example, they hear music playing in the background and as it may so happen they enjoy it and want to listen to it more often. With Tunney extension, they could simply add it to their playlist without having to change windows.
