Inspiration
What if you could create a song with your friends that sounded like a band but was totally unique just by humming?
What it does
An app on your phone, TuneTag lets you pick an instrument, hum a tune, and send a track to a friend. They add to it and send it to the next person. When someone hits publish, the song is done, and everyone gets notified.
How we built it
prototype in Figma, cross-platform app in Flutter, hum-to-tune using a pytorch DDSP algorithm from Google Magenta.
Challenges we ran into
Getting our own DDSP api up and running has been a real challenge. Similarly the flutter app does not represent the Figma prototypes. We will need more time to demonstrate this properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make several versions of the app flow in Figma and we even made a song as a group using the DDSP Logic plugin!
What we learned
We learned a lot about the state of AI in music and the state of neural net music synthesis. The APIs for BeatOven and JamBase pose interesting use cases where respectively someone could start with a nice backing track or play in a band that has an upcoming show in their town.
What's next for TuneTag
We'd love to get a reliable proof of concept on the app stores!
