Inspiration

As a team, we looked for how we could make life in Japan for students of TUJ easier.

What it does

It acts like a private online marketplace where authorized users (students) can sell anything.

How we built it

We built TUJ Yard Sale using a clean, responsive front-end stack focused on usability and design consistency. Our foundation is HTML and CSS, supported by Font Awesome and Google Fonts for visual polish and branding. We also implemented a functional item submission form with email validation (accepting only @temple.edu addresses) to ensure a safe, student-only marketplace. While our current build focuses on front-end design, we’ve also planned for JavaScript integration to enable dynamic listings and interactive features in the future.

Challenges we ran into

We originally intended to implement backend functionality; however, due to time constraints and a lack of technical knowledge, we were unable to complete this aspect of our application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was some of our first time participating in a hackathon, and overall, we're very happy with our experience. Coding under a time constrain was also a challenge that we're proud of overcoming.

What we learned

While technical knowledge is integral to projects like these, a better understanding of developer tools (Github) would have made the process much easier.

What's next for TUJ Yard Sale

The next features we hope to implement are login functionality and backend implementation.
