Inspiration
Our inspiration came from trying to be "out of the box" in order to make a real impact. After much research and discussions, we realized that the environmental issue of Ozone layer depletion is not considered and explored enough by the general population. For this reason, we have created our informative website and product with the hopes of spreading awareness and a solution to this problem. Even though we are aware that the Ozone hole over Antarctica is healing, it will take around 40 years to do so. In those 40 years, many people's risk of skin cancer, actinic keratosis, solar elastosis, and other diseases will increase thanks to the UV radiation from the sun. This is why we believe that acting now is imperative and therefore wish to spread awareness and a solution.
What it does
Our app tracks where you are with small accessories that you can get, and it tells the amount of UV radiation and if the place is safe for you, or if you should just wear sunscreen. Also, there is a shop where you can buy UV-resistant pants, shirts, jackets, sunscreens, and more.
How we built it
Html, Python
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into were finding a name for coding the app and making the app, as well as narrowing down our idea of environmental problems, to ozone depletion.
Accomplishments
Accomplishments that we're proud is finding a name, and coding the app.
What we learned
We learned that if the ozone layers are not there, then the world is very dangerous and the earth will no longer be enabled to have life. We also learned, that chlorine and bromine atoms are the things that destroy the ozone and that it is important to stop using products that include them.
What's next for SafeZone
With this app, we need to spread awareness of ozone depletion, and use the money from our shop to create more products that do not use the things that cause ozone depletion.
