Inspiration

The inspiration for ThetaReels came from the popularity of short video content platforms like YouTube shorts. We wanted to create a similar platform that would allow users to easily stream and consume bite-sized videos.

What it does

ThetaReels is a platform that enables users to stream short videos. It provides a seamless experience for quick and easy consumption of bite-sized content, similar to YouTube shorts.

How we built it

We built ThetaReels using a combination of technologies. The frontend of the application was developed using React and Next.js, providing a robust and efficient user interface. TypeScript was used to ensure type safety and improved development workflow. For the backend, we utilized Supabase as our database solution. Additionally, the video storage and delivery were handled by integrating the Thetavideo API, which allowed us to efficiently store and serve the short videos on the platform.

Challenges we ran into

During the development process of ThetaReels, we faced significant challenges in structuring the entire application and achieving seamless integration with the Thetavideo API. Unfortunately, the Thetavideo API encountered functionality issues that persisted throughout the development phase and persist until now. As a result, we have been unable to upload videos from either the backend (Thetavideo API) or the frontend (ThetaReels). Despite these obstacles, our team diligently worked to carefully design the architecture and manage the integration process to ensure the best possible video streaming and delivery experience within ThetaReels.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in successfully developing and launching ThetaReels, a platform that provides an intuitive and efficient streaming experience for short videos. Overcoming the challenges of structuring the application and integrating the Thetavideo API demonstrates our ability to deliver a high-quality product.

What we learned

Through the development of ThetaReels, we gained valuable experience in using React, Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and integrating third-party APIs like the Thetavideo API. We learned about efficiently handling video storage and delivery, ensuring a seamless user experience within the platform.

What's next for ThetaReels

In the future, we plan to further enhance ThetaReels by incorporating additional features such as user profiles, video recommendations, and social interaction capabilities. We will also continue optimizing the performance and scalability of the platform, leveraging the Thetavideo API to provide an even better video streaming experience for our users.
