TruthLens: Fighting Misinformation One Click at a Time

We live in an age where misinformation spreads faster than truth. A false headline can go viral in minutes, shaping opinions and influencing decisions before anyone questions its accuracy. For students, journalists, and everyday news consumers, verifying information means manually checking multiple sources, a process that takes time most people don't have.

That's why we built TruthLens.

TruthLens is a Chrome extension that instantly verifies news articles as you read them. One click extracts the article's key claims, cross-references them against 11+ credible sources like Reuters, AP, and BBC, and returns a credibility score in seconds. No more tab-hopping between fact-checkers. No more wondering if what you're reading is true.

The technical challenge was speed and accuracy. We used OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini to intelligently extract verifiable claims, built a tiered source system that weighs Reuters higher than secondary outlets, and created a verification algorithm that provides transparent, evidence-based scoring. The result is a tool that's both fast enough for real-time use and thorough enough to trust.

TruthLens isn't just a browser extension. It's a defense against the misinformation epidemic. In a world where anyone can publish anything, we're giving people the power to verify everything.
