What is Trustee ?

Trustee is a Chrome Extension that leverages advanced AI to protect users from scams on online marketplaces. It acts as a real-time trust advisor, analyzing listings and conversations to help users make informed decisions. The AI, powered by Mistral AI, simulates realistic decision-making and provides detailed trust scores for sellers and listings.

This project was developed during the ESSEC Hackathon 2025, focusing on the transition from LLMs to agentic AI.

How we built it

This project was created during the ESSEC Hackathon 2025, which took place in April 2025. The hackathon focused on developing solutions that bridge the gap between Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic AI systems.

The team was divided into 3 subteams :

  • One on business part (1 person)
  • One on ML/AI development (2 people)
  • One on UI/UX development (3 people)

Challenges we ran into

We faced multiple challenges :

  • (Tech) Communication between the marketplace conversation and the Chrome extension view. The extension view should display data given the information displayed on the browser of the user. It was quite hard to be able to get data from the currently visited webpage because of Chrome's protections.
  • (Tech) NeMo utilization : The Nvidia NeMo was quite hard to handle for us. We choose to continue with other technologies but really thinked about how to integrate it in the future in Trustee because we understand how powerful it can be.
  • (Organization) Time management : Completing the project within the 36-hour timeframe of the hackathon was difficult. We were a little bit in advance at first but then, we got late and slept just a little ! But we finished on time, so we're proud of that !

  • All team members learned a lot of things about developing AI agents and Machine Learning techniques.
  • We didn't know each other before the hackathon and we achieved to work together seamlessly and make a great product ! We will definitely stay connected.

Trustee operates on a freemium model:

  1. Sources of Revenue:

    • Freemium: Free extension with basic alerts.
    • Premium subscription (€4.99/month): Includes detailed Trust Scores, personalized suggestions, seller history tracking, etc.
    • B2B offerings: Customized subscriptions for marketplaces with Trusty Score integration via API at higher pricing tiers.

  2. Pricing Strategy:

    • Monthly or annual plans for individual users.
    • Scalable B2B solutions tailored to marketplace needs.

  3. Cost Structure:

    • Development of AI systems and front-end interfaces.
    • Infrastructure costs (API hosting).
    • User support and growth marketing expenses.

  4. Profitability Goals:

    • Break-even point targeted within 18–24 months through scalable revenue streams.

What's next for Trustee - AI-Powered Scam Detector

In long term, Trustee will become the Anti-Virus for Social Engineering. We aim to see it integrated in all conversation platforms (Microsoft Teams, Discord, etc.) and it will be able to detect scams from Social Engineering with ease and protect people from these scams.

Trustee will also become a reference in confidence. Marketplaces that will be Trustee's partners will be really trustworthy and reliable for customers. Trustee will become a trust reference worldwide.
