Inspiration

Learning the trumpet was a personal goal of mine, and I was inspired by apps like “skoove” who have a gamified approach that makes beginners want to practice more.

What it does

Allows you to upload any midi / musescore file from which it creates a music score. It then listens to your playing and tells you if you’re playing the piece correctly, and gives you prompts if you are not. Of course there’s much more features than just that, like AI coaching, automatic transposition, etc.

How we built it

Mostly using google antigravity + some small amount of help from featherless.ai

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was honestly finding a balance between keeping the playhead at tempo and not being too sluggish, while still being forgiving enough to beginner players who don’t know every single fingering right off the bat.

Other smaller challenges include just general development pitfalls: certain aspects of app (like upload feature) not working properly, having better design language than just “cool gradient background + glassy buttons”

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My first real app, that I'm so proud of, I'm considering making an android version in my free time to actually use for myself / distribute for others. So much customizability and utility using the automatic transpose feature, octave shift, intonation tolerance, cent stability graph, valve prompts.

What we learned

Sometimes the most helpful apps are made by the people who actually plan on using it. I, myself, as a musician (clarinet) know all the things I would love to have in a music-learning app. So I made it as feature-rich as I desired because I knew exactly what musicians would appreciate.

What's next for TrumpetPracticeHero

Like I said, I will definitely make an android version for personal use / potentially distribution on google play, while I keep making small version updates to the github repo (I have a few features planned for the future!)
