Inspiration
Too often our legislators get away with voting against our best interest for the majority of their terms, only to pull a 180 and act like everyone's best friend in an election year. Humans have short memories so we fall for it again and again. We need a way to keep track of our opinions on issues throughout the full term of a representative to hold that rep accountable for their actions.
What it does
Trump the Pigs tracks users' opinions on each issue that comes to vote in the senate, house, and state legislature. It provides a web portal for users to see how legislators are graded based on a weighted comparison of a user's opinions and each legislator's actual votes. We gather the user's opinions by offering a web portal to weigh in on past decisions, and real-time SMS polls as votes are taken in the various levels of legislature.
How we built it
ESRI, Nexmo, PubNub, node.js, react, redux, govtrack.us API
Challenges we ran into
Agreeing on an idea with a unanimous vote, defining the scope of the project, and swapping roles so each team member gets a chance to do something he doesn't normally do.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a product we think can actually help voters make informed decisions.
What we learned
When putting together a team it's important for everyone to understand the goals of each teammate in the group.
What's next for Trump the Pigs
Make America Informed Again. #MAIA
