Inspiration
When surrounded by so much talent, it’s difficult not to compare yourself. This struggle is the reality for many women, which our team has experienced firsthand. We created TrulyHer because imposter syndrome is a prevalent issue for women in tech. We were inspired by the immense accomplishments of our peers, and wanted to help the countless women who deserve better tools for wellness.
What it does
TrulyHer allows users to vent their thoughts and log journal entries, either through speech or text. The app then detects various moods and patterns, providing personalized strategies and tips to create healthier habits. Moreover, it creates a mood tracking dashboard to show their ups and downs over time, offering encouragement and guidance along the way.
How we built it
We built TrulyHer using React, Javascript, VS Code, HTML, CSS, and base44.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was the technical difficulties we encountered along the way, especially since we were all relatively new to the platforms we used today. Debugging was frustrating, and we spent a long time analyzing what went wrong in the code. However, our passion for the project carried us through and helped us stay motivated despite the setbacks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the ideation behind TrulyHer because it addresses mental health challenges for women in tech, a critical and often overlooked issue. Despite our inexperience, we combined AI-powered mood tracking with an aesthetic, user-friendly interface. We are proud of our accomplishments because the concept stands out as both practical and empowering.
What we learned
None of us had much experience creating apps, so we learned the process of creating apps and UI/UX design. We spent time learning the basics of creating a user-focused interface, including how to leverage colour and spacing to create the atmosphere we wanted. We also learned how to take into consideration design aspects to induce or alleviate the user’s mood.
What's next for TrulyHer
TrulyHer currently targets women struggling with their mental health, with strategies and resources tailored for women. We hope to grow TrulyHer to help everyone with their mental health. As well, we hope to integrate TrulyHer with other devices such as fitness watches, which allow the user to be aware of various changes in heart rate.
