Inspiration
Being high school students going into our senior year, we discovered a lack of information regarding the costs of studying at our dream universities, finding the tuition fee was no issue, but finding housing costs, book costs, food costs and transportation costs was very tough. There was no single platform that would consolidate all this information for us, so we decided to come up with one ourselves.
Problem
FGLI students often encounter a lack of transparency when it comes to finding out the true cost of studying at their target schools, which includes not only their tuition but hidden costs such as transportation and other miscellaneous expenses.
These financial complexities can often be discouraging and overwhelming for FGLI students, many of which already have grown up in an environment that foster a stigma towards financial expenses.
TrueTuition aims to bridge this gap, because every student deserves to chase their dreams, free from the shackles of financial uncertainty
What it does/Features
TrueTuition has 4 main features, a cost calculator, a resource page with information about scholarships and financial aid specific to their university and major, a forum to discuss and take advice from senior, and a StayFinder, that will help students find affordable housing near campus.
How we built it
We used WIX to build a prototype
Challenges we ran into
Consolidating and finding all of the financial data was definitely challenging
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a strategy to bring our idea to life, and also making a working prototype demo.
What we learned
We learned the basic theory of web design, and what it takes to launch and maintain a website.
What's next for TrueTuition
If the feedback from the target market is good, we hope to launch TrueTuition officially in the upcoming years.
