🚀 TrueTrace – Unmask Fake News in Seconds with super-powerful Agentic AI

Inspiration

In today’s world, misinformation spreads faster than ever. From viral social media posts to questionable news sites, it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s fake. We wanted to build a tool that empowers people to trace news back to trusted sources and make informed decisions.

What it does

TrueTrace is a Fake News Detection and Verification platform powered by Agentic AI + Gemini API. Accepts text, URLs, PDFs, images, or memes as input Analyzes claims using a multi-agent workflow Searches the web in real time to verify credibility Provides a verdict (True, Fake, Mixed, Unverified) with confidence scores Displays a professional evidence report that highlights verified sources

How we built it

Frontend: React + Tailwind → clean, futuristic UI with animations Backend: Node.js + Express + Gemini API → real-time analysis and reasoning Database: Fake + true datasets for training, and integration with live APIs for validation AI: Multi-agent pipeline that breaks down claims, verifies them step-by-step, and cross-checks sources

Challenges we ran into

Building a reliable verification system that doesn’t just say “true/false,” but actually shows evidence Handling multiple input types (text, images, PDFs) Designing a wow-factor UI while keeping it minimal, easy to use by target audience and intuitive Integrating Gemini API seamlessly with backend logic

Built a fully working end-to-end solution within hackathon time Created a professional-style evidence report that judges and users can instantly trust Designed a futuristic UI that makes fact-checking feel easy and accessible Reached an accuracy of ~90% when tested with benchmark fake/true datasets

I worked on the back-end, focusing on designing workflows and logic to improve the accuracy and quality of the AI’s answers. My role included refining how claims were processed, improving validation steps, and ensuring that the AI produced results that were both reliable and easy to understand. I also worked on structuring the back-end so that the system could scale smoothly and handle multiple input types consistently.

Japjot Singh
I design documented the website’s UI, ensuring it was clean, engaging, and user-friendly. I also created and refined the written content across the site to make it impactful and judge-ready. In addition, I worked on structuring and designing the pitch presentation, adding storytelling elements and visual flow to effectively communicate our idea during the hackathon.
