Inspiration
We were inspired by other CTF's we have done, as well as the theming of HackUMBC.
What it does
Tests the user's skills in Web Exploitation and Forensics.
How we built it
For the website, we used AI to build it and the backend server.py script that runs it all. If it were to be used in a real CTF, we'd clean up the script and switch over to running it VIA a docker container. The challenge portions and planning was all done by us however.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into was figuring out how to set up the disk image and the SSTV .wav file. The disk kept being too large and finding an SSTV protocol that is universally decipherable across multiple tools is not easy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a challenge that covers multiple categories of CTF and is not very guessy or pointlessly hard.
What we learned
We learned how to dev Web Exploitation, and Forensics CTF questions.
What's next for TrueGritVinyls
Maybe a sequel challenge that has a more hardened web backend that is harder to exploit.
