Key Members Of The Supply Chain Have Fewer Places To Rest And Relax
The Problem Truckers and other valuable transit operators are finding themselves without safe places to park and sleep, get showers, hot food, and get fuel. Often pulling off the road only to find out where they were going either isn't open, is out of fuel, is out of food, or essentials. This is a key resource in keeping people alive as the things they are delivering are things such as, testing kits, grocery stock, and ventilators. We need to protect the logistical supply chain if we want to have a chance at surviving this.
There's also another issue, as more countries contribute supplies to the U.S. COVID-19 response, there are jams at port terminals around the country as trucks try to get in for pickups.
So, What Is Truck Stop?
The Solution Truck Stop is a web based application, heavily modified to work on mobile, that allows business owners to visit the web site and sign up with their information: name, address, amenities they offer, etc. Our application then takes this data and geo-codes it to a map for everyone visiting the web site to see. Truckers can visit the site and either search a location to see whats available or use their current location to have it automatically searched for them to see what is nearby.
The businesses on the site will be provided with a simple dashboard that they can update their amenities or close their site in real time.
We believe this solution will provide a system to keep our truckers safe from robbery, save on time, keep them rested, and keep them fed. It gives business another avenue of advertising what amenities they offer and that they are even still open.
We have identified a solution to the Port jam issue and are building a database and API to assist this.
This Project Is Being Built But We Still Need Help
Help If You Can Right now I have been the only one working on this project keeping an updated Github repo going. The main html5 is mostly done as is the basic CSS3 I've begun building the database using Postgresql and Flask with Python, but this is an ongoing process and I am trying to rush to get the basic functionality of the site up and available soon.
Challenges I ran into
Time I am one person and need someone to split the back end Python coding with me so we can get everything hooked up and posting the data points on the map and pulling the correct businesses.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
When You Surprise Yourself You Surprise Yourself It's as simple as that I am surprised I could just sit down and go go go like this. It's great to see so many people come together and offer their skills and services around the world for a cause that affects us all.
Right now the site is about halfway there which just starting a project seems like a daunting task most days. I am proud to even have an opportunity to help in some small way.
What I learned
Never Stop learning I am still learning new things every minute and every second. I hope to get help from people much smarter and talented than I that I may learn from them and make this application highly effective.
What's next for TruckStop
Again, Need Help
Need to finish getting the backend built and deploy everything. Then need to get the word out.
