Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from the US Postal Service and radio stations, which always connect and foster communities, even in the most dire situations. We were also inspired by the show Violet Evergarden.

What it does

In Truck Alone, you are a truck driver in a post-apocalyptic world, delivering the last mementos left in your van that never reached their final destination. You make daily calls over the radio and read letters to track down where the letter should go. Be careful, however, and don’t make the wrong connections, as some callers try to swindle you. Bring loved ones together, closure for others, and rekindle bonds, even in a lost world.

How we built it

We built Truck Alone using Unity 2D.

Challenges we ran into

Building the game took longer than anticipated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of including cutscenes and a branching narrative, allowing us to include many types of thematic interpersonal relationship connections. Mechanically, we were also able to incorporate the different POVs in 2D games, connecting them cohesively together for a more interactive experience. We managed to accomplish most of our goals for this 24-hour game jam!

What we learned

Even though 24-hour game jams are very challenging, they are an amazing way to test our skills and meet new people.

What's next for Truck Alone

We would like to create more desolation in the environment and backgrounds to make the world appear more post-apocalyptic to help set the tone. We would also like to expand upon the narrative by making more letters, radio conversations, and in-depth cutscenes.
