Inspiration

A few days ago, I came across a video where a person won the classic snakes game. That got me to thinking what can I add to the game to increase the difficulty? Pondering upon this thought the inspiration struck me. Its still only the second week of college so I felt that bringing this idea to life would be a good starting project for exposure and for fun. Participating here also fixed a due date which helped me to really refocus and prioritize what I want from this project.

I hope you have as much fun playing it as I had making it :)

What it does

The idea was very simple. The game lacked an opponent and a more difficult target to catch so I solved both these problems by introducing a Mouse! This mouse competes with the snake for fruits and can also be caught by the snake for extra points. The catch being that the mouse runs much faster than the snake. So far in countless runs of testing, I have only been able to catch the mouse once.

How I built it

The logic behind building the game was not that complex. It required some basic knowledge about javascript. Only thing was to determine how the mouse would move, for the movement of mouse is influenced by both the drive for fruit and the fear of snake.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The thing I am most proud of is that I was able to create an actual game. It's not perfect but everyone must start somewhere right. I am also proud of the fact that I was able to add my own art(the mouse, snake and fruit) into the game.

What I learned

Throughout the development process, I learnt a whole bunch of things such as adding keyboard controls using javascript, how to make the game adjust to different screen dimensions, and how to add images to the game.

What's next for trouble for the snake

Next features which can be added to the game are-

  1. Powerups(such as making snake speed faster and spawning the fruit near snake)
  2. Background music
  3. High score tracker
