Inspiration
Inspired to raise awareness about the endangerment of aquatic life caused by human actions and to bring the underwater experience to life using augmented reality.
What it does
This project aims to provide an immersive underwater experience without disrupting the delicate marine ecosystem. Users can interact with various aquatic species, such as sharks, and sea turtles, that they may not be able to encounter in real life. Through an interactive experience, users will be able to learn about the importance of these creatures and the impact that humans have on their populations. This way, people can have a closer look at the beauty and complexity of marine life without damaging it. Additionally, this project will also serve as a reminder of the importance of protecting our oceans and the animals that call them home.
How we built it
We built using Blender, AWEjs
Challenges we ran into
3D assets rendering, lack of AWE support for 3d model formats, and large files (loading time is large) on the web platform
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time built web-based AR using tools never used before (AWE and blender)
What we learned
Obtaining 3D models and scenes is harder than we thought. Animating them into the application was a whole other mountain to climb.
What's next for Tropical Treasure
Making the 3D models more realistic for an enhanced immersive experience, adding dynamic data about aquatic life, and providing a collaborative platform to dive deeper and explore together with others.
