Trip planning with friends can be a logistical nightmare — endless group chats, indecisiveness, and clashing preferences. We wanted to turn that chaos into something fun, smart, and collaborative. TripQuest is a gamified group trip planner that lets destinations compete based on users’ preferences like culture, budget, weather, and more. It scores each option and selects the best match for the group. We used a combination of Rust for backend logic, SQLite for data storage, and a CLI frontend , just enough to see how exciting it can get, to deliver a responsive and engaging user experience. The matching logic uses weighted scoring based on user inputs. Doing so, we turned a stressful real-world problem into something playful and intuitive. Our dynamic scoring system and the fun, competitive twist on destination selection really impressed testers. We plan to integrate real-time travel data, support for flight/hotel booking APIs, and enhance social features like polls, achievements, and friend trip histories. AI-driven suggestions are also on the horizon.
