Inspiration
Planning and booking trips and tickets can be a hassle sometimes. For that reason, we decided to create a website that lets you do everything at once! From selecting your flight to finding the restaurants at your destination, our website has it all. Ultimately, the goal was to create a seamless experience where users could easily plan their trips without jumping between multiple apps or websites.
What it does
Trippy is an all-in-one travel planning tool that allows users to find flights, explore events, and discover attractions in their destination city. Users can input their current location, destination, and travel dates, and Trippy will provide detailed options for flights, events, and attractions. Additionally, users can customize the app's appearance with a range of themes, making their planning experience both functional and visually enjoyable. The app also features an itinerary builder that lets users organize their travel plans into a schedule, which can be viewed in either a box or calendar format.
How we built it
We built Trippy using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while using APIs like Amadeus for flight data, Ticketmaster for events, and Yelp for attractions. The front-end is styled using custom CSS, with dynamic theme switching enabled through JavaScript. The map functionality is powered by Leaflet.js, providing an interactive map that updates based on user inputs.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge we ran into throughout this project was API implementation. It took us several tries to find a working flight API for us, as majority of the ones we found were either paylocked or the free tier didn’t have access to everything we needed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of successfully integrating multiple APIs to create a smooth user experience and overcoming technical challenges, especially with dynamic map rendering and theme customization. The teamwork and collaboration that brought Trippy to life within a short timeframe are also accomplishments we value.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate and manage multiple APIs efficiently, troubleshoot JavaScript issues, and handle dynamic UI updates. We also gained insights into effective project planning and collaboration, which were crucial in bringing our vision to reality.
What's next for Trippy
Looking ahead, we plan to expand Trippy by integrating more travel services, such as hotel bookings and car rentals. We may also add things like Google Maps integration, where you can track the amount of time it would take for you to go from your hotel to the events that you plan to attend.
