Inspiration

Finding the perfect destination for a group of friends living in different locations can be challenging. We've built a smart travel planner that helps groups easily discover ideal destinations based on everyone's preferences, creating a fun, collaborative experience where every member has input in the final decision.

What it does

TripMates is a collaborative group travel planner that helps friends organize and agree on where to go, proposes possible destinations according to everyone's preferences, helps with flights, hotels, events, museums and everything the user wants. Thanks to its interactive interface, a group of friends can talk to the Ai agent about their beliefs, preferences and interests, the agent will interactively respond to their insight and help them with the planning. They can even sit at a table and talk between them while the AI agent listens, then, when they require it, they can demand its assistance. At the end of the session the Agent will write a trip proposal with flights, hotels and possible plans and sent it to the group members by email. Thanks to the integrated API the Agent will find true flights and decide which is the best for the group's interest.

How we built it

Frontend: React with LiveKit for real-time communication
Backend: Python with LiveKit Agents
AI: Custom agent built with LiveKit Agents framework
APIs: Skyscanner for flight data, Amadeus and HotelAPI for hotel data, Ticketmaster and MeetUp for Events Data, Deepgram Nova 3 for text to speech, OpenAI for speech to text and natural language processing

The app allows each group member to input preferences (budget, dates, destinations), and then computes intersections, proposes options, and generates a travel plan summary.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the AIAgent to speak with the group of friends
Making the Agent take into account all the group preferences
Managing conflicts between preferences in a meaningful and fair way.
Integrating OpenAI prompts to generate helpful travel suggestions in real time.
Getting the AI to ask the questions we needed for the agent to find the best flights.

What we learned

How to work efficiently as a team under time pressure.
Managing both technical complexity and user experience design.
That everyone has very different travel priorities — and there’s value in organizing that chaos.
