TripMap

Inspiration

Travel plans are often scattered across booking sites, emails, screenshots, PDFs, notes, and map links. During a trip, it becomes stressful to answer simple questions like “Where do we go next?”, “What time is check-in?”, or “Which reservation site did I use?” TripMap was inspired by that real travel problem.

What it does

TripMap is a mobile travel planning app that keeps bookings, hotel details, tours, transport, notes, links, images, and files in one place. Users can add spots to a trip, attach screenshots or PDFs, view places on a map, organize the schedule by date, and open Google Maps navigation when they need directions.

How we built it

We built TripMap with Expo, React Native, TypeScript, Firebase, and Google Maps. Codex helped us move faster by implementing features, debugging iOS and Android build issues, improving the user interface, adding file and image attachments, and preparing builds for Google Play and TestFlight.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest parts were making the app useful for real travel situations, handling map coordinates from international addresses, supporting both Android and iPhone builds, and making the experience clear for non-technical users. We also had to fix production-only issues such as a blank iOS screen caused by a missing native module.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a real mobile app that can be tested on both Android and iPhone. TripMap supports travel spots, schedules, notes, links, images, files, Google Maps navigation, and a clearer workflow for organizing complicated travel plans.

What we learned

We learned that travel planning apps need to be flexible because real trips are messy. Users need a place for confirmed bookings, tentative plans, weather-dependent activities, cancellation reminders, route information, and documents. We also learned how useful Codex can be for repeatedly testing, fixing, and shipping a cross-platform mobile app.

What's next for TripMap

Next, we want to improve automatic import from Trip.com, Booking.com, Yahoo Travel, and Rakuten Travel, add better collaboration for sharing trips with companions, improve offline access, and make the app easier for travelers to use during the trip itself.
