Inspiration

The quest to know how much distance did I drive over a period of time. The trip meter in the vehicle is good to show the aggregate. It does not go deeper with date and time of start and end point, Number of trips etc.

What it does

A single screen with pre-filled input box for date and time, and odometer reading with two buttons - Start Trip and End Trip. The start trip records the beginning of trip and end the opposite. On the user action of clicking any of these buttons, timestamp, odometer reading is written to a text file in a format. This file could be exported for analysis in a different application (e.g. Excel :) )

How I built it

Built using Android Studio for Android. Deployed in my phone and actively use it also.

Challenges I ran into

Not much, it is a small hack.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Now, I know the different trips with details of date, time, and distance. This will give me insights on the density of trips, # of long trips, monthly distribution of trips to account for fuel consumption.

What I learned

This is my first android application. So, I learned everything bottom up in the android platform.

What's next for TripLog

Many plans are revolving in my head with this application. It is dormant for some time, but wish to include - 1. Description of trip; rationale is to understand the reason of trip for analysis on motivation for a trip 2. Latitude and Longitude along for trip end points; rationale being to know the location on map for the trip 3. Path taken, to understand the route of the trip to see how I have fared over a period of time with my navigator.
