Inspiration
Filmmaking is a powerful source of creativity and a great career down the line. However due to the complex equipment and limited accessibility, starting out a career in this field can be very difficult. This is why we created Triple Take!, we were inspired to build a tool that lowers these barriers empowering anyone to explore storytelling / filmmaking visually and interactively.
What it does
Our project is a real-time scene simulator that allows users to place props in 3D space to simulate an environment virtually. A user can place props, choose between indoor or outdoor, or pre-set environments. Additionally to adjusting natural/artificial lighting, experimenting with various camera positions and angles. This allows for pre-visualization, with being able to form story boarding through producing screenshots.
How we built it
We used Unity to create the interactive 3D environment, we used assets provided by Unity for UI elements. We used C# scripts to enable dynamic prop placement, dragging, and camera/light manipulation. We designed UI/UX within Unity, and 3D UI overlay menus for interaction within the game.
Challenges we ran into
This was all of our first times working with graphics and Unity and it was a major learning curve. We ran into many errors, it was our first time navigating through Unity, we faced major merge conflicts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud of our accomplishments forming a layout and interactive 3D storytelling platform.
What we learned
We learned the importance of UI/UX design when working in 3D space. We learned how to implement modular tools, a lighting / camera system. We were able to work in a team to achieve these goals despite facing errors along the way.
What's next for Triple Take
We plan to see how we can implement better functionality and improve the layout, UI/UX
