SkillUp: Your Personal Learning Coach

Inspiration

In the AI era, the pace at which we must acquire new skills has dramatically increased. Inspired by Amazon's PartyRock tool, our objective was to create a solution that enables rapid skill acquisition. Thus, SkillUp was conceived—a tool designed to facilitate swift and effective learning.

What it does

SkillUp simplifies the learning process. Users input the skill they wish to learn, their current proficiency level, desired pace of learning, and learning style. Based on this information, SkillUp crafts a personalized learning pathway and a detailed one-month schedule. Furthermore, an AI tutor is available to provide in-depth guidance and support throughout the entire learning journey.

How we built it

We leveraged PartyRock, a feature of the Amazon Bedrock Playground, as our foundation. This platform allowed us to explore Prompt Engineering and Foundational Models (FMs), enabling the creation of an app powered by generative AI that is both functional and engaging.

Challenges we ran into

Our initial ambition was to design a tool capable of dynamically regenerating the Learning Path and Planned Schedule sections in response to interactions with the AI tutor. However, we faced technical challenges related to circular dependencies, which prevented us from saving widget states as intended.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We succeeded in developing a tool that significantly accelerates the skill learning process. SkillUp is a testament to our commitment to enhancing learning efficiency through innovative technology.

What we learned

This project deepened our understanding of prompt engineering and the intricacies of designing tools that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) for educational purposes. We've gained invaluable insights into creating more detailed and effective prompts for LLMs.

What's next for the project

Looking forward, we aim to expand SkillUp by incorporating additional features such as a learning calendar and daily challenges. These enhancements are designed to make the learning journey not only more structured but also more enjoyable and engaging. Our vision is to create an AI-powered tool that not only facilitates skill acquisition but also inspires a love for learning.
