Inspiration

We saw that people were throwing away good plastic that can easily form a large amount of waste when millions do the same.

What it does

Ur Trash is an app we built for people of all ages. The app has several features, including a locator which helps the person using the app to locate to the nearest recycling bins. Our plan is simple; we intend to add QR codes recycling bins in Singapore. When someone is throwing their trash away, they can then get points for recycling their trash properly, which they can utilise to redeem rewards. Our goal is to encourage recycling and teach citizens right values from a young age. Education without an incentive has not been useful thus far.

How we built it

We designed the prototype of our application on Figma. To regconise the user, we designed a QR code scanner in the app that users have to scan when at the recycling bin. Though we did not actually build the app, we believe that through using Location APIs that are freely available, our app can actually be sucessful.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was figuring out a way to convince users to recycle. Over the past decade, numerous start-ups and designers have created various solutions to tackle causes of climate change. However, these solutions are non-corrective and I mostly informative.

What we learned

We learnt a lot during this journey, and hope that someday, our idea can be used as it would make recycling MUCH more efficient. We learnt about teamwork and also about time management.

What's next for Triple A Batteries

We hope to win this competition but mostly, we hope that our idea is good enough to be implemented in Singapore to make Singapore a more sustainable and eco-friendly country.
