Inspiration:

We were inspired by our winter break trip to Japan. It was a foreign country that we had never been to before so we were unfamiliar with popular tourist destinations. And it was difficult to find places to go, so we made this website to ease the process.

What it does

Our app gives the user recommendations for popular attractions based on their dream destination. It also has a posting aspect, where users can post their favorite destinations with a description, image, and rating. These posts show up on a user's 'hidden gem' page that shows users attractions that other users have posted. This app also takes in your travel preferences and demographics and helps to recommend travel destinations you may like via the 'hidden gem' page.

How we built it

We used a flask set up that used mostly python and HTML to create the app, as well as some css. We also used softwares like github, heroku, mongo DB, and APIs in order to collaborate on the project, install necessary APIs and softwares, and store user and app information.

Challenges we ran into

Merging branches in Github was difficult, as well as learning HTML, CSS, and some new Python skills. It was also difficult to incorporate all the different aspects into one project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using APIs, Flask, Heroku, and Mongo DB in our first hackathon

What we learned

We learned new coding languages, how to use a data base, how to use an API, how to use git commands, and how to make a fullstack app.

What's next for Trip Tuner

We wanted to connect the American Airlines API as well (in progress), and we also wanted to accumulate more users and posts in order to improve our user experience and the overall effectiveness of our app.
