Inspiration

Our project inspiration was built around the fact that there are many international students at UMD who have never been to the US. Many of our international friends have told us about the culture shocks that they experienced and how they wish they had some sort of guide to help them transition to different societies.

What it does

Our mobile app takes the users starting location (home country) and brings together travel and finance related guidance. It includes currency conversions, COVID health safety, transportation, destinations, and cultural transition advice. It is meant to take the most stressful aspects of international travel and combines it into one seamless interface. Therefore reducing the stress of travel and encouraging safety. The design of the mobile app was made to be intuitive to people's of many different backgrounds.

How we built it

We used Figma, Canva, repl.it, Java, and Eclipse IDE. To work together, we developed as much as we could on repl.it then moved the whole project to Eclipse to implement the GUI.

Challenges we ran into

Front-end

We had difficulty adding animations and implementing certain UI abilities due to Figma's limitations. We also struggled finding a problem statement due to our limited time, specifically UX research because international students were hard to come by for interviews.

Back-end

We struggled with making GUI's, and ran into a lot of issues with prompting the user for inputs repeatedly. We also were unable to get API's working for us in time, so we had to find a way to return relevant information using the user input.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to complete our UX/UI prototype to our satisfaction and all the back-end goals were met and satisfied.

What we learned

We learned how to work as a team and coordinate both back-end and front-end. We gained more experience with Canva and Figma. We learned how to implement GUI's in the back-end area.

What's next for Trip Trip Hooray

We hope to incorporate the back-end and front-end together. Additionally, we would like to add the ability to connect with other international friends.
